So infectious

The Tracks by The Units and the remix is by Rory Phillips I must have listened to this 20 times in the past 2 days. The original was made over thirty years ago which is incredible considering its sound. Rory Phillips has done some of my favorite remixes as of late including White Lies, New Young Pony Club there all worth checking out.

SXSW DAY 2 - The Riverboat Gamblers

Starting the set with "If you've got one of those passes around your neck, put it away. kinda makes you look like a dick", this was THEIR free show, and it was awesome. The Riverboat Gamblers played to a full house in the middle of the day, and they gave it their all. for me these guys have never been able to cross over to CD, as live they're awesome, real raw energy. how punk rock should be.

check out "A Choppy, Yet Sincere Apology"

SXSW DAY 2 - Peelander-Z

Peelander-Z are like nothing i've ever seen, but i guess thats the point. described as japanese action comic punk (which pretty much hits the nail on the head), these guys are defo worth at least 1 gig on your part, having so much fun with their broken english shouting. and finishing with Lionel Richie "Say You Say Me"

check out "Let's Go! Karaoke Party"

heres a nice little video of them bowling in the crowd...?

SXSW DAY 2 - The Morning Benders

The Morning Benders, ovs have a comical name, people will one day get over it. the band, people may not be able to get over as easy. these guys are great, really good presents live. hitting you with this lovely vocal harmony half way through the set in "Excuses". real buzz about this band at sxsw, great warm surf sound to it.

check out "Promises"

SXSW DAY 2 - Stricken City

didn't really know what to expect from Stricken City, i'd head mixed reviews. but they delivered. early in the day, sun is shining and they're inside, they manage to get a pretty decent turn out. the sound really crosses well from CD to live, and so does the energy. has elements of Beach House but a bit more uptempo. with a banshees edge too

check out "Pull The House Down"

SXSW DAY 2 - Beach Fossils

beach fossils remind me of alot of current acts at the moment, in that new surf, feed back distorted scene. but there really is something about these guys that make them stand out. with a stand up drummer that seems to be having the most fun ever, ALL THE TIME, they're a pretty fun band to watch too. spot on everytime

check out the track "Daydream"

SXSW DAY 2 - Ernest Gonzales

so i started the day off with the main intention of seeing Neon Indian at the Terrorbird / Forcefield day party, but i didnt actually stay there long enough to watch them. however i did get to see 3 other acts instead,

first was Ernest Gonzales, a local austin artist, with a weird but defo workable sound mix of guitars and heavy dance music. playing just off a laptop he was still very entertaining, and really enjoying what he was doing, as where the crowd. check out "Falling Asleep to Glow of the Television"

SXSW DAY 1 - bang bang eche

what a great way to start my SXSW free festival, late on tuesday night Bang Bang Eche took to the small "Friends" bar stage, which is in the front window of the bar. and they played their little hearts out! feel in love with this band after seeing them play The Freebutt, in brighton. just so much energy, and so much craft in the OZ fave's of mine. bring together a mix of danceable aggressive pop music that has been missed from my ears for a long time. with the table of samplers and pedals, things get very loud and very messy pretty quick. if you get the chance to catch them do so, cos at the moment there arent really many people doing what they do, as well as they do

MGMT

so MGMT are back with their new single "Flash Delirium", its not what i expected if i'm honest, its better! i was kinda expecting them to hit the same formula again, and just re write "kids" but they didnt, this reminds me alot of Whirlwind Heat, which is a great thing. its free to download from their site HERE

Chew Lips

Ive Mentioned this band before but words can't describe just how much i like their debut album "Unicorn". There obviously not lacking in confidence as you won't find their previous two singles (Salt Air and Solo) on the album. Its a great dark sounding synth record, the three piece have provided one of my favorite debuts in a long while. The band are currently touring with Delphic and have as headline tour scheduled for April. Go check them out.

"Crowds" and other things...

So last night i went and saw Local Natives who were fantastic. Genuinely tight, the vocals were some of the best i've ever heard live and they really went for it. The lead singer/ guitairist bloke also had one of the most hypnotic and mesmerizing moustaches i have ever seen, but that is another blog post all together.

Anyway, the crowd were absolute shit. Motionless. Not even a foot tap or a head nod in sight. After getting told off for "pushing" my way to the front, i had a feeling it was going to be one of those nights. I dont expect them to be going off (above), but it was really akward to be in the room, i cant even imagine how the band felt? Totally sold out show, one of my favourite bands of last year and im feeling bad for singing and moving around more than having to adjust my fringe. What an embarrassment.

Rant over, now onto someone awesome, Mayer Hawthorne. This guy rules. I've posted loads of his stuff on here but i couldnt give a monkeys, his new video for "I Wish It Would Rain" is golden. Ginger John and his brother got a taste of the tune before Dark Party opened on Saturday and were caining me for it, but whatever, he smashes it:

The only criticism of his album "A Strange Araangement", is that this song isnt on it. But thats o.k because you can download it here:
