Swell Maps
I love a good re-issue to open my eyes and ears to things i've missed out on in my life. I noticed Swell Maps "A Trip to Marineville" purely for the amazing cover, a house on fire, brilliant. Then when i actually got around to listening to it, i just thought, hang on, why the fuck don't more people know about this band?! File under that new wave/no wave/punk that was kicking around in the late 70s and early 80s. One of the best buys of this year so far
here are 2 of my favourite tracks from it...

Splendid taste as ever John. Loads of Maps related stuff at www.topplers.net.org, including Olive's Hairy Custard, a band I was lucky enough to be in with Jowe (bass Maps man).
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work
Andy (Knockout)
that site sends me to something totally not where you're trying to send me... ahaha but thats awesome man!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad more people don;t know about it. Why does everybody have to know about everything? – especially if they're too lazy to go and look for themselves. I think art gets diluted and denuded as it gets popularised, and gets absorbed by the mainstream. We should do everything to stop that happening. Next thing we know Swell Maps will be selling pensions or crappy feel-good consumer good. I never forgave Lou Reed letting them use some of my favourite music to sell tyres.
